Information for New Clients

Medicare-Better Access to Mental Health Care

Medicare rebates are available for clients who are referred by their Doctor (GP or Psychiatrist) for psychological treatment, under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care program. If you would like to see one of our staff under this pathway, you will need to visit your Doctor to have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) completed. Clients referred through this pathway are eligible for up to 10 rebated individual therapy sessions, and up to 10 rebated group therapy sessions per calendar year. If you are struggling with a significant eating disorder, you may be eligible for up to 40 individual therapy sessions within a 12 month period.

To ensure you’re receiving the best quality of care, a collaborative approach is required between your Doctor and your therapist. Your therapist will need to correspond with your Doctor intermittently across the course of your treatment to advise of your progress.

Full payment will be required at the completion of your appointment, and you will then be able to be reimbursed by Medicare.
